About Us

IMG_1366.jpeg

Boston is a hub of scientific industry and home to world-class universities, yet school communities across New England lack access to adequate resources for high-quality scientific education. Students underperform on standardized science assessments and are excluded from the scientific community due to race, gender, and socio-economic status.

BioBus has already reached over 8,000 students across New England and has attended events and conferences in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. Our dedicated New England team continues to ensure that all students in our community have access to quality science programming. Our community partners include Harvard, MIT and Northeastern as well as numerous schools districts across the region. In Somerville, Massachusetts, BioBus mobile labs have visited more than half of the schools in the district at least once and science teachers are participating in microscopy workshops run by BioBus in collaboration with Harvard Medical School.

Our pathway, consisting of our Discover, Explore, and Pursue programs, reaches students at all levels of their science journeys. Discover programs are the first step on BioBus’s science pathway, and involve bringing our mobile laboratory to entire classes of up to 30 students to engage with research-grade equipment and professional scientists. These programs spark enthusiasm for science, which BioBus then supports via a full pathway of programming, including in-depth exploration during after school, weekend, and summer programs and paid Junior Scientist internships where high school and college students receive the training, mentorship, and professional networks to kickstart science majors and STEM careers.

Where's your bus? We're fundraising for one right now! Currently, BioBus's vehicles are stationed in New York and make regular trips to New England. Therefore, our capacity for bus programs is limited. However, that doesn't stop the fun as we bring our scientific tools and samples straight into classrooms with our pop-up programs!

Our Mission  and Philosophy

BioBus envisions a world in which everyone can reach their full scientific potential. We build toward this vision by bringing hands-on science learning directly to students in communities under-represented in science careers.
